sudyn: AniSue to MovieSue

Here we go again. Another discussion.
Just in case you might have noticed and might be wondering: I deleted the post prior to this one. My common sense switched on a bit late, then told me it was a bad idea to post one’s own writing in one’s own community when it’s still as fresh as this one and has but a handful of members to boast. It felt too much like self-advertising.
Anyway.
I started watching D. Gray-man recently; an awesome anime series – for those of you who don’t know what that is. I love watching anime where blood spurts every now and then. My love for Elfen Lied is proof for that, I guess.
But there is one thing I’ve noticed about both anime series mentioned above. I don’t think I would read them, were they in novel form.
Do you feel similarly when it comes to anime – both adult and teen anime? And do you feel there are Sues out in the movie industry/Hollywood productions, etc.? Does it bother you? Anything you would not mind never seeing again? Any other rants in that direction?

NCIS has Gibbs-Sue If you ever catch an episode written by the particular writer that seems to really love him it becomes positively painful. It is the big detraction from the series for my husband and I, though we continue watching. Having been with it from the beginning we've pegged a few separate writers out of the group that you can tell when an episode is primarily their work.

Also, in 24 and Las Vegas... Las Vegas I can't bring myself to watch because it is full of a bunch of "too cool for themselves" Mary-Sue's.

hahahaha. Your comment made me laugh, but I seriously don't know which shows you're talking about. I'm very sorry. *blushes* I don't know if i've mentioned this to you before, but I live in Germany. I don't think we get all the shows you do over in the States. (I'm assuming you are from there, though I'm not sure.)

But yes. We get lots of shows with "too cool for themselves" Mary-Sue's over here as well, the only difference being that Germans are horrible actors.

Are the shows you're speaking of something like CSI, the X-Files, and Emergency Room? We definitely get those over here... Though I must admit that I don't watch them, simply because they bore me to tears.

Heh, sorry. We don't watch shows on the tv, we get them off the net, so I tend not to think of national borders in regards to it.

Yeah, they're all american shows tho. Don't watch any of the shows you mentioned, except X-files years ago. For that matter, I've only seen a single episode of 24(arguably the biggest series in the us and canada, atm.) and I hate Las Vegas and thus don't watch it.

The only one I can watch in spite of the Gary-stu is NCIS, but even that's been getting bad lately.

And the main reason I hate and know about Las Vegas so much is that they keep having crossover episodes with a favorite show of mine(another you've probably never heard of) called Crossing Jordan. It's made worse because they are always CJ episodes, but they let the LV writers write the scripts, so none of the regular characters behave normally and the LV characters Mary-Sue all over the place. *rolls eyes* Even my husband hates the crossover eps and he watches LV every week.

Don't worry abou it. No need to apologize. =D
Yeah. We get lots of American shows over here, but I'm not acquainted with even half of them. I'm simply not the soap-opera-watcher... nor one who watches episodes of any kind, actually. I love the Simpsons and King of Queens, though.

I don't know what NCIS is, but I know - or have heard of, rather - Crossing Jordan.

And I must agree that cross-over episodes are nightmarish. It thwarts uniqueness. (As if all those shows were actually unique! But at least they could try, no?)
Do you by any chance remember the cross-over cartoon when the Flintstones met the Jacksons? *gags* Not good at all. Right now, it's the most popular I can think of. *is amazed she can think at all*

Sorry about the randomness. I'm very scattered-brained right now.

Oh. And here is something I just remembered: BEVERLY HILLS 90210!!!
Sue Alert! Horrible!
but I used to watch every single show back in the days
